U.S. Open Contestants also Playing John Deere Classic
At least 25 players competing in this week’s U.S. Open at Erin Hills currently are scheduled to play at the John Deere Classic, July 10-16, at TPC Deere Run.
In addition to John Deere Classic past champions Zach Johnson (2012), three-peater Steve Stricker (2009-’11), Brian Harman (2014), and Sean O’Hair (2005), the U.S. Open will feature John Deere Classic contestants Angel Cabrera, winner of the 2009 Masters and 2007 U.S. Open and 2009 U.S. Open champion Lucas Glover. The John Deere Classic field will be finalized July 8.
Other players who can be seen strolling Wisconsin’s Kettle Moraine this week and TPC Deere Run next month will be 2017 PGA TOUR winners Wesley Bryan (RBC Heritage, Hilton Head), Kevin Kisner (Dean & DeLuca, Colonial) and Si Woo Kim (Players), as well as veterans Daniel Summerhays, Pat Perez, Chez Reavie, Harris English, Troy Merritt, Ryan Palmer, and William McGirt.
Young players who have qualified for the Open and are set to play the John Deere are California amateur star Maverick McNealy of Stanford; former U.S. Amateur champion Bryson DeChambeau; former college and amateur golf phenoms C.T. Pan, Xander Schauffele, and Trey Mullinax, as well as J.T. Poston, Bud Cauley Ted Potter, Jr., Brian Stuard, and Whee Kim.
“The John Deere Classic is proud and excited to have so many of our players competing at this week’s U.S. Open at Erin Hills,” said John Deere Classic tournament director Clair Peterson. “Their participation this week could be a way for our fans to engage in the excitement of this week’s championship and decide to come out and see them in person here next month.”
John Deere Classic defending champion Ryan Moore was qualified for the U.S. Open but had to withdraw because of an injury.
Moore, whose two-shot victory at last year’s John Deere Classic helped him earn the final captain’s pick for the U.S. Ryder Cup team, is expected to defend his title, July 10-16, at TPC Deere Run.
The 34-year-old Las Vegas resident shot 22-under par at Deere Run last year with rounds of 65-65-65-67—262 – including bogey-free weekend - en route to his fifth career PGA TOUR win.
The 47th edition of the Quad Cities-based event will feature its highest-ever purse: $5.6 million, with $1 million going to the winner from a field of 156 players.
